Cliveden Bluebells

Image
Unfortunately you have to pay to access this walk at Cliveden (unless you are a National Trust member). We parked in the woodland carpark and walked up to the house, with a detour to the round garden, which I'd never come across before despite numerous visits. map of route Walked with Tony 30/04/2021

Goring and Whitchurch

Image
Fabulous views on this 20 mile ride in the sunshine from Caversham bridge, through Goring Heath, Goring and Whitchurch. Bluebells in full bloom too. There are a couple of cafes in Goring but as they were busy I bought a picnic to eat by the river Map of route Rode 25/04/2021   Perfect spot for a picnic I think it's OK to walk up a hill when steps are provided. (Not that I don't walk up other hills)

Balmore Park

Image
A short local walk, through this pretty park, hidden away behind Hemdean Road. Starting from Caversham bridge. We did this walk in glorious April sunshine. The park is lovely for a picnic or get a coffee in Caversham.  Map of route Walked with Tony 24/04/2021

Henley and Sonning

I had a gorgeous sunny day for this  19 mile cycle ride. Mainly on road with a couple of sections of bridleway. Another bacon roll - this time at the café in Mill Meadows. Map of route Rode 17/04/2021

Caversham into the Countryside

Image
A 3.5 mile walk starting in Caversham, going out into the countryside. Had a lovely walk (and chat :-))  with a lovely friend.  A mixture of tarmac, gravel and dirt paths. Easy to follow route.  Parking: In Hemdean Road coordinates 51.47766584868906, -0.9773894641554545 Map of route Walked with Katherine 16/04/2021

A walk with a view near Goring Heath

Image
2.5 mile walk mainly through the woods with a spectacular view point across the Thames where we sat to enjoy our elevenses. There was some fascinating archaeological excavation going on in the woodland. Hopefully there will be more of it to see next time we go that way   Mainly dirt paths. Pretty hilly. There are more paths on the ground than on the map so the route can be a bit tricky to follow. On the first part of the walk follow the Chiltern Way signs, then turn right along the track at the bottom of the hill. For the last part of the walk look out for yellow footpath signs and painted white arrows on trees to find the main paths. Parking: In roadside layby in Reading Road, Collins End, opposite a house called King Charles Head, coordinates  51.504675, -1.044737 Map of route Walked with Tony 16/04/2021

Off Road Exploration

Image
17 mile cycle ride. Lots of off road - some of it pretty steep & rough, although I rode all but one short hill. I came home straight down the main road, which I probably wouldn't do again as it was busier than I expected.  My first significant bit of off-roading this year - been waiting for a dry spell for the mud to dry out. Really enjoyed it despite drizzly weather Map of route Rode 10/042021

Stoke Row Bluebells

Image
2.5 mile (in total) there-and-back walk to Stoke Row where we enjoyed a sausage baguette from Stoke Row Stores, sitting on the bench by Maharaja's well.  The Bluebells were just starting to come out when we did this walk - another week or two and it will be looking glorious. There were some interesting entries in the scarecrow trail. A mixture of dirt paths and tarmac. Fine to walk in trainers when we did it in April Parking: In roadside layby in Emmens Lane, coordinates  51.540902, -1.029784 Map of route GPX file  - This is a link to the GPX recording of walking the route and can be loaded into Apps such as Strava.  Walked with Tony 09/04/2021  Big holes like this are likely to be clay pits* Bluebells just coming out The pony seemed to be hoping for a snack Scarecrow Trail *Info from The Cultural Heritage of Chiltern Woods - John Morris

Rotherfield Peppard - Sedgehill Spring

Image
2 mile walk A mixture of mud paths and tarmac. This walk takes you past Sedgehill Spring - more info here:  https://www.chilternsaonb.org/ccbmaps/418/137/spring-wood.html Parking: On the road in  Butlers Yard, coordinates 51.5233104, -0.9819671 Bus: The Peppard Common - Gravel Hill Top stop is very close to the start of this walk Walk along Blounts Court Rd to find the start of the footpath to the left of Springwater Church.  Map of route Walked with Tony 05/04/2021. A bit of snow in the air! Sedgehill Spring Site of old quarry Another frog sign - actually I think its a toads crossing sign - a thing at this time of year apparently

Peppard Hill Woodland Wander

Image
2.5 mile walk A pleasant woodland wander. Hilly in places. Park in the layby about half a mile down Colmore Lane co-ordinates: 51.54004294280588, -0.99492203275831 Bus: About half a mile from the bus stop by the Unicorn pub. Map of route Walked with Tony 03/04/2021

Strip Lynchets

Image
18  mile cycle,  Start at Caversham Bridge Mainly on road. A short section of steep and bumpy bridleway. Hilly section in the middle. The strip lynchets are terraces cut into the hillside -  a feature of ancient field systems and can be seen from the bottom of the bridleway. Map of route Rode 02/04/2021 Strip Lynchets View right across the Thames Valley into Wiltshire Frog warning sign - seems to have been hand modified from a bend in the road sign
